Something I have noticed more and more in the online community, not just in the IZ fandom, but the internet as a whole. Is the over sexualization of rape. Artists and writers drawing content meant to appeal to people for it being 'forced,' honestly this turn on the mental mindset of people online worries me.
In many of the artistic mediums you will find art pieces relating to this kind of topic, whether it being in the popular 'yaoi' books that many at some point indulge in. This mindset of rape being a ploy to use for a good time, forcing someone onto someone else becoming a arousing sight. Its rather concerning to me.
Rape is a traumatizing, mentally scaring thing, and people carry the marks of it for the rest of their lives. It can change people, make them into someone entirely different then they originally were.
Some victims of rape blame themselves, never speak up about what was done to them, and instead feel guilt for having been so weak. Curl inward, and hide away. Feeling if anyone was to know their judgmental eyes would fall upon them.
Rape leaves the victim fractured in a un-explainable way, some push through it while others, fall apart. Try and pretend such a thing never occurred, when they cannot cope with the concept they allow themselves to slip into the blissful grasps of denial.
Even sexual abuse can leave people completely broken, no matter if it was taken to the final point of forced sex or not. It is mentally damaging, and can make it difficult for people to interact with others in the future. Or to trust.
The baggage of such a hurtful event hangs onto the people, and never really goes away.
They can't wash away the marks from their attackers hands, and they cant protect themselves from the contorting paths of their own minds.
What if I hadn't dressed that way..
What if I hadn't taken that turn
Why did I trust them
Why did I let them do that to me
Why didn't I fight back.
Rape isn't sexy, its damaging, it leaves scars.
Scars that often never heal completely.
